Birds of Paradise is a gelato boutique that offers flavours derived from fruit, flowers, pods and herbs. In conjunction with their first shop down at Katong, Hjgher was commissioned to develop the full brand architecture including the logo, fonts, visual brand elements, as well as the interior design to ensure a wholistic and impactful brand experience. Alluding to the botanical flavours that the gelato boutique takes its inspiration from, the name was conceived to take after the species of plant, highlighting their use of natural ingredients.

The application of a simple, understated font, with secondary elements illustrated as a reference to the ingredients, further plays to the core concept of Birds of Paradise. To enhance the ice cream colours, soft muted tones are used throughout its packaging and collateral, coming together to bring across a coherent narrative throughout the brand’s identity.

Taking centerstage in the shop is a long, white counter with rounded edges that holds the ice cream display, which extends and flows uninterrupted into a working area and communal table designed in the shape of a leaf. A wall of 3D illustrations made up of the secondary brand elements runs perpendicular to this, introducing a focal point to the space.

Throughout, a natural wood material was selected by Hjgher with the intention to provide a cosy and inviting atmosphere, while copper details were introduced as part of the finishing and lights, complementing the wood fittings and illuminating the entire boutique. A floating copper mirror above the long counter is adored with soft touches of plants adding depth of space, while wall shelves display neatly stacked takeaway cups.
