Tucked away off Holland Road, Astrid Meadows is a condominium retreat set within a lush and extensive landscape. Each unit features a generous balcony, expertly designed as a transitional space blurring the boundaries between the inside and the outside – fostering a harmonious connection with nature.
Upon entering the abode, guests are greeted by a vista of the living room as they step onto the amber-hued marble tile floor of the common areas. Originally constructed in 1990, the original layout of the living area was constrained by small, partitioned spaces, which in addition was too formal and uninviting. A simple reconfiguration into an open-plan living space allowed for a seamless flow of fresh air and natural light throughout the spacious central area better suited for our lively family clients in residence. Newly installed sliding glass doors provide an inviting frame to the lush greenery beyond; blurring the lines between the indoor and outdoor.
Down to the living room, a seamless series of steps extend along a long slab of cast-in-place concrete – serving as both a sofa and a low console table. Side walls are clad in warm-toned, fabric-textured wall panels, framed in brushed oak wood. This oak wood is used as the signature for the timber rafters and wall panels, which have been designed to encapsulate and highlight the spacious dining and family area. The built-in display shelf and open kitchen serve as a backdrop for the living space, showcasing the owner’s affinity for well-made wooden furniture and a curated collection of decorative objects from various time periods. The result is an eclectic yet curated look that seamlessly blends the past and present into a harmonious composition.
Designed to be a tranquil and intimate sanctuary, the bedroom utilises natural materials to create a calming symphony of earthy tones and rich textures. Honed sandstone tiles cover the floors, while fixtures and feature walls are clad in brushed oak. Accent chairs and wardrobes are finished in black metal and rust leather, intentionally standing out in rooms which otherwise feature a muted palette. The work desks are carefully positioned to face the windows, offering a picturesque view of the surrounding greenery, and creating a private work corner tailored to the refined sensibilities of modern life. In contrast to the warm and inviting bedrooms, the en-suite bathrooms are covered in cool grey stones. The vanities are topped with dark grey quartz adorned with web spun veins of gold, paired with brushed oak cabinets and warm accent lighting, striking a balance between muted elegance and considered cohesiveness.
