More than 5000 visitors were presented with books and works from international publishers, distributors, retailers and artists. Visitors included buyers and art book enthusiasts interested in gaining access and connection to the Asian world and art book buyers. Various art related fringe activities such as art film screenings, book binding and creative workshops, artists and creatives talks were held throughout the 4 day event.
“I’ve seen Art Book Fairs in London, New York and take Tokyo, Hiroshi Egushi who runs the Tokyo Art Book Fair once joked that we should do one in Singapore and I said, yeah why not? It made sense with all the partners of the international art books, magazines and zines we already knew. The fact that they all wanted to come to Singapore just gave the Singapore Art Book Fair good reason to gather them altogether for a common goal.”
The inaugural art book fair was held from 27th November to 2nd December as part of The U Factory in Gillman Barracks, a former military camp that has been converted into Asia’s up-and-coming destination for contemporary art.
The next instalment of Singapore Art Book Fair 2014 takes place from 13-17th November 2014 inside the Centre for Contemporary Arts (CCA) in Gillman Barracks.
