Muji Living in a Garden City
Client: Muji
Year: 2016
Art Direction: Hjgher
Design: Hjgher
Exhibition Design: Hjgher
To mark the re-opening and expansion of MUJI ION Orchard Singapore, 18 local designers and artists came together to re-interpret a series of existing MUJI products. The products, which fall under four broad categories—Working, Resting, Eating and Living—showcase the diverse ways we’ve incorporated MUJI’s items into our lifestyles in Singapore.
In bringing new meaning to products we interact with on a daily basis, each exhibit compelled visitors to question and contemplate our changing lifestyles and how we have adapted traditional tools creatively to suit our evolving needs. The exhibition space designed by Hjgher saw cotton stalks suspended from its central walkway, symbolising the relationship we share with nature as a Garden City.
Each artist also created a print for a MUJI Organic Cotton myBag, which were put on sale during the exhibition to encourage shoppers to play their part in saving the Earth. Proceeds from the sale went to the Children’s Cancer Foundation. Visitors to the exhibition were also treated to a series of music showcases and workshops.
