Currently making rounds at De Zines, one of three exhibitions of Inéditos 2010, Underscore is seen rubbing shoulders with Apartamento, Purple, McSweeney, The Journal, Monocle, 032C, and ±400 other publications at La Casa Encendida, Madrid.

Organised by Roberto Vidal and Óscar Martín, De Zines “aims to reflect what is happening in contemporary publishing concerning independent publications; how this field relates to the field of artistic production and the contemporary social, cultural and political environment”. It is running from now till 29 August.

Hey, where did the pencil go?

Inspired by the circus, carnivals and joyrides that never ever end at never never land, soft “feminine” colour hues were juggled with a considered random pattern of three distinct emerald shaped gems that playfully balanced the interior walls. This helped set the background for the precise positioning of the reinforced metal rings of “vibrant” gold, where a gloriously glamourous myriad of womenswear from plain strapless tees to floral jumpsuits, little knicker shorts to denim overcoats, hang upon its roller coaster rails, surreptitiously engineered by our team of scientists that profess physics on the construct of “cute”. And what could be cuter than an array of Ferruccio Laviani table lamps converted and strung from the ceiling in its metallic colour splendour?

Sneak a peek visit and don’t blame us if the bright white fitting rooms tips your decision in making that purchase. We would sleep in there if we could.

— Of vein skin and bone, a debut collection defined by fifteen artisanal pieces will be showcased within their workspace for an intimate setting. Come, share their pride and joy as the studio opens its doors to the public for the very first time this Saturday, 17 July, 7pm at 61 Niven Road. We guarantee that time would be well spent.

And thankfully, Henri Cartier-Bresson was around to capture them all. From a Sunday morning picnic to Mohandas Gandhi’s funeral to the Maoist Civil War, Monsieur Cartier-Bresson documented life as it was with his Leica around the world.

An exhibition entitled Henri Cartier-Bresson: The Modern Century is currently running at the MOMA where you get to see more than 300 of his photos. Definitely a must to check out.

A D&AD 2010 In Book Award for Entire Magazines in the Magazine and Newspaper Design category, placing Underscore with the rest of the international magazines we’ve stacked/aligned our shelves with; A Guide, Apartamento, Qompendium and not failing to mention Singapore’s own Werk and Guerillazine which gave Theseus from WORK, pencils last year.

The best part about it was that the jury was led by none other than the godfather of magazines/newspapers, Jeremy Leslie, Design Director of magCulture and co-curator of Colophon. They should knight him for raising the level of editorial design to where it is today.

Again, I know we’ve done this a million times over, but we would sincerely like to thank you everyone of you who’ve supported us with your constant support/encouragement, as well as naysaying/disapproval for we could have never have pressed on this far without you.

As we’re now breaking all laws of time/physics for N°2, we’re keen as candy to announce its launch in July/August. Kindly stay attuned.

In 2009-2010, Andreas constructed Ocean I-VI series using high-definition satellite photographs presenting us with epic and breathtaking images —a reminder of the wonder of our cosmic grandeur.

Space is very important for me but in a more abstract way. Maybe to try to understand not just that we are living in a certain building or in a certain location, but to become aware that we are living on a planet that is going at enormous speed through the universe. I read a picture not for what’s really going on there, I read it more for what is going on in our world generally.

A life lesson learnt.

We have always been inspired by Julien’s great sense of french humor and cynicism. Be sure to check out his other work here.

We’re giving it 4 out of 5 stars, only because we wish it was longer. Well worth all 93 minutes of sacrifice, even with your eyes closed. Watch it now.

Given the impressive cast, the well executed website, the stellar reviews, the clever ensemble of musicians for the ethereal soundtrack and the fact that Mr Jonze was delighted with the absolut freedom to reassure us with his award winning direction, I’m still inclined to withhold any judgment till I get through all 31 minutes, unlike Where The Wild Things Are, where sadly, its super-sized roar outdid its locked jaw bite.

To watch the worldwide online premiere  tomorrow, 19th March, all you have to do is register online for free tickets, remove all memory of Björk’s, All Is Full Of Love (which incidentally was directed by Mr Jonze’s Directors Label partner, Chris Cunningham) and expect it to be nothing remotely similar to Hirokazu Koreeda’s, Air Doll.

Every once in a while there comes something that changes lives i.e. an iPhone or peanut butter jam; and
between these once-in-a-whiles, there are smaller things that improve life little by little. Thinking for a Living does that and more.

A series of inspiring content, from the greyness of paradoxes to recommended readings on their Shelf section, accompanied by a well thought out grid system and a fluid keyboard navigation, the redesigned TFAL is for the thinkers amongst us who want more than just eye candy amidst the tons of image-bookmarking sites.

Yes we saw that aural fireworks exploded in rainbow colours, yes we saw ourselves as the fearless Peter Pan dashing through Never Neverland at the speed of light, fighting this super sonic pirate with peacock feathers masking his face, no we don’t know if Boy Lilikoi is edible, nor do we concern if we understand his english. In fact, we’re lost on this sea of ecstatic blissfulness Jónsi had just flooded us with (and we thought Gobbledigook was the happiest song).

To define Boy Lilikoi as epic is probably a rude understatement, no?

We cannot thank the folk at Kith enough for the trust they bestowed upon us, with complete design freedom for their branding, interior and furniture.
