Yes we saw that aural fireworks exploded in rainbow colours, yes we saw ourselves as the fearless Peter Pan dashing through Never Neverland at the speed of light, fighting this super sonic pirate with peacock feathers masking his face, no we don’t know if Boy Lilikoi is edible, nor do we concern if we understand his english. In fact, we’re lost on this sea of ecstatic blissfulness Jónsi had just flooded us with (and we thought Gobbledigook was the happiest song).
To define Boy Lilikoi as epic is probably a rude understatement, no?
Listen to Boy Lilikoi here.

On a recent trip to London, we were greeted by pianos all over. Some whispered silently in a park, some cried under the infamous drizzle but most made us passers-by listen and bear witness in awestruck wonder. From Tchaikovsky to The Beatles to Ten Little Indians, the crisp summer air was filled with music at every turn on the streets. A rare sight it was, for cold Londoners to slow their pace, listen for a while, and cheer for the playing strangers.
We later found out it was a project by Luke Jerram, who installed 30 old, unwanted pianos all over the city, “to get people talking to one another and to claim ownership and activate the public space”.
Street pianos are appearing in cities across the world. Located in skate parks, industrial estates, laundrettes, precincts, bus shelters and train stations, outside pubs and football grounds, the pianos are for any member of the public to enjoy and claim ownership of. Who plays them and how long they remain is up to each community. The pianos act as sculptural, musical, blank canvas’s that become a reflection of the communities they are embedded into. Many pianos are personalised and decorated.
Our friend Msxi had her take on Chopin by the Millennium Bridge.

The crystal clear air. The pulsing, floating air. The ageless, timeless air.
Jón þór Birgisson & Alex Somers have been exhibiting their works under the moniker Riceboy Sleeps and are now ready to release their first music album this July. Once again we have been looping this video, hoping one day we will wake up to miraculously find ourselves laying on the vast Stokkseyri land, surrounded by gigantic walking trees and friendly trolls feeding baby unicorns.

Watch video Daníell in the sea and read the press release.

This road trip in Malaysia reminds us of how we tend to forget the small things in life. When stopping our car off-road in no-man’s-land in the dead of the night, it is so quiet we can hear the leaves breathing. And the night sky presents us with what us city-dwellers don’t see in a very long time: stars.
Meteors fade across the sky in abundance as we walk across a vast field, with bugs orchestrating a prelude to the approaching springtime. Getting lost has never been this fascinating. We then recall a time-lapse video we watched some time back, The Sky in Motion by Till Credner, composed from a series from 7,000 images illustrating wonders of the sky above us.
Please, do watch the HD version on a fullscreen, and remember to pick up all the little things that you’ve lost along your way; and now, we shall try to find our way home.
Watch The Sky in Motion here.

“Sun, moon and stars show up with their daily rise and set. The beauty of our celestial phenomena is increased by the accelerated time lapse technique showing the apparent motion of the sky due to earth’s rotation.”

They are the Hidden People from beneath the mythical frozen land, they are the sound of melting ice and breathing sky, they are the emotions that perpetuate every before, during and after. On a chilly evening in Osaka, Sigur Rós played those icelandic folklores to us, one after another, and all we did was weep uncontrollably, inside our heads, like the artificial snow on stage.

We’ve imagined probably 125 different scenarios with heartbreaking moments and romantic imagery since we heard The Cinematic Orchestra’s To Build A Home, but the folks over at Up The Resolution had just filled in the blanks for us with an absolutely breathtaking short film. Approaching this take with a refreshing idea, they’ve created this double-length music video to encompass both To Build A Home and Breathe, another track by The Cinematic Orchestra.

Watch To Build A Home here.

We’re not big fans of Björk, so we’re rather concerned that Encyclopedia Pictura is ruffling our latent interest with their ambitious undertaking of her nomadic “Wanderlust” journey in 3D. We were promised a premiere in February but due to “technical complications”, we heard that only the normal aka 2D version has been featured so far. The production involved in anything 3D isn’t as complicated as rocket science, but it sure comes close. You can read about their extensive production process here. You can also watch the making of Wanderlust here.

Don’t run out and get your RGB sans G shades just yet. See the normal version here first with the online premiere out today.

You’ve done the D.A.N.C.E.
You’ve dived deep into Nazareth’s waters.
You’ve found new friends and now you know, you’ll Never be alone again.
So do us Justice and tell us please, what the † does DVNO mean?

We were losing our patience waiting for the DVNO video and now that its finally out, we cant help but give respect to their simple concept of bastardizing classic american icons. But honestly, we really think SO-ME should be the four capital letters printed in gold. We’ve too, signed up for Machine Molle membership… have you?

We’ve lost count of the number of times watching Heima since we bought it, erm, yesterday.

The graciously flowing streams, the slowly melting ice, the abandoned aircraft on a forsaken land, the deserted herring factory at Djúpavík, the 25000-year-old Ásbyrgi canyon; Sigur Rós’ ethereal soundscape is beautifully blended in with the vast and surreal Iceland-scape.
Every frame of this film is picturesque, every sound haunting, but we figured no words could/would justify this whole aural-visual experience that we’re so overwhelmed with, so please, watch it.
And watch it again. And again. And again.
Visit Heima.
And again.

The hugely anticipated (by us and for certain many others) READINGS movie, spawned from the zeitgeist collaboration of Nick Knight, Hussein Chalayan and Anthony Hegarty is finally out today!

The showcase movie premiered this evening in Paris at Hussein’s show and was launched simultaneously on the site at 7pm (GMT+1). What was truly intriguing about this project was the invitation to the general public audience of SHOWstudio’s blog, to submit their treatments for READINGS, based on a brief provided by Hussein Chalayan himself. Dare we say we had a part to play in the result? Watch it and find out.
Be forewarned, it’s already been 79mins, and I’m still waiting for the full movie to finish loading. This better be worth it.

“Heima” (Icelandic for “at home” or “homeland”).
Sigur Rós break their two-year silence to release their first-ever film and a companion album later this autumn. Filmed over two weeks last summer when the band undertook a free tour of Iceland, shows Sigur Rós as never before.
“Heima” receives its worldwide premiere on September 27th at the Icelandic Film Festival and a run of national premieres at film festivals all around the world follows including a UK premiere (full details soon to be announced). The film will then receive a nationwide UK release in selected cinemas across the UK.
We thought it’d be apt to have them as our first ever post as they never cease to move us to tears. Makes us want to move to Iceland and die happily there. If they ever tour closer to our shores again, you’d be sure to hear it from us first… and see us there as well.
Images and words extracted from Heima’s trailer.
